Ice fishing on the lake is very popular but can be dangerous. Check with a forest ranger
or professional guide before stepping out on the ice. It's really deep and the ice can be
unstable in many spots.

  Best fishing may occur in the winter for those who can brave the elements. This photo was
taken in a spot where the trout fishing is excellent in the summer near Hemlock Eddy, about
halfway between the dam and Warren. This part of the river has been designated Wild and
Scenic and special catch and release rules may be in effect. Large muskies and walleye are
also caught here every year.
  Things can get pretty cold, pretty fast out here. Even though the river has lots of ice in it
already a sudden drop in ambient temperature has created a large thermal gradient between
the water and the air in the photo above. That's why you can see steam rising off the river in the
middle of winter if you look closely in the middle of the photograph.
